Lobke Versteegen Sales support medewerker

VDL Industrial Modules

Customer contact, order processing, resolving issues and ordering parts: in her role as a Sales Support Assistant at VDL Industrial Modules in Helmond, Lobke Versteegen has a varied role. “The product is new, the work is varied and my colleagues are brilliant. I’ve already learnt so much in such a short time.”

A fresh start with confidence

After working as a ‘signmaker’ for several years at her previous employer, Lobke was ready for a new challenge following the birth of her baby. When Dave van de Ven, Key Account Manager at VDL Industrial Modules, approached her for an interview at VDL, it felt like an opportunity. “During the interview, I immediately noticed that it was different. Colleagues genuinely asked who I was and how I was getting on. In such a large company, you expect a certain distance, but it immediately felt like a close-knit team. That warmth and commitment gave me the confidence to start fresh.”

Working on an innovative product: paint mixing machine

Among other things, VDL Industrial Modules manufactures paint mixing machines for an international client. These machines do not use liquid paint, but tiny paint beads that are mixed in precise quantities to create the right colour. “I didn’t know the system at all, but it works really cleanly and accurately. Because the product is still relatively new, we’re learning something new every day. My role is to support end customers, resolve issues and ensure we keep improving the product. I do that, of course, together with my colleagues.”

Solving problems together

When dealing with customer enquiries, Lobke teams up with colleagues Jan from Sales and Tijn from Engineering. “If there’s a fault, we investigate together to see what’s going on. Tijn monitors the situation remotely, I stay in touch with the customer and arrange for parts. The great thing is that we work together across different departments. That way, customers stay satisfied and we learn a huge amount from each other.”

Continuous development

A highlight for Lobke was a customer visit in Belgium. “It gave me a broader perspective on how our machines are used and what matters to customers.” The organisation is growing, product development continues, and the number of international customers is increasing. “That fits perfectly with what I enjoy: continuing to learn and improve.”

The strength of a close-knit team

What makes VDL special for Lobke is the sense of camaraderie. “Everyone is always ready to help one another. You feel seen and heard. It’s precisely those little things that make a big difference. Walking in on a Monday morning and hearing: ‘How was your weekend?’ Laughing together, solving problems together, and knowing you’re never facing a challenge alone. That gives me a tremendous sense of peace and enjoyment in my work. ” She therefore looks to the future with confidence: “I want to expand my technical knowledge, improve my English and make more customer visits. For me, VDL is the perfect place to grow.”
