Monique Verheij Forewomen glue department

VDL ETG Almelo

“What I love most about my work? The combination of technology and leadership. I still work with my hands, but I'm also involved in solving problems, thinking about improvements, and guiding colleagues. No day is the same, which keeps it challenging.”

Monique started her career in the graphic sector but wanted to work more with her hands. When a friend pointed out a position at VDL ETG Almelo, she applied. After a tour, she was immediately enthusiastic. She has now been working at VDL ETG for almost nine years and has grown into the role of forewoman in the glue department. Thanks to her broad experience within the organization, she is an important link in the team and contributes ideas for technical and process improvements.

Describe your job in three words

“Varied – Solution-oriented – People-oriented.”

What is important in your role?

“As a team leader, I ensure that the work process runs smoothly and that colleagues receive the right support. I think along about improvements, solve problems, and make sure we can work as efficiently as possible. In addition, the human aspect is very important. Sometimes colleagues come to me with personal matters, and you have to build that trust. It's not just about the work, but also about creating a pleasant and safe working environment.”

What do you enjoy about your work?

“The variety. No day goes as planned, which keeps it challenging. I work on the floor, but I am also involved with process improvements and leadership. That combination of practical work and strategy makes the job interesting. Moreover, high-tech production is incredibly educational. You see how complex products come to life, and if you are curious, you can learn a tremendous amount here.”

What is the highlight of your career?

“The growth I have experienced. When I started at VDL ETG, I mostly thought: let's see where this takes me. But by seizing opportunities and being open to development, I have progressed. I have gotten to know various departments and processes and now view things very differently. The role of team leader has changed me not only professionally but also personally.”

What advice would you give to someone planning to apply at VDL ETG?

“Be eager to learn and take initiative. Here you have the opportunity to learn a lot and advance in your career, but you have to take it yourself. If you wait, nothing will happen. In addition, it is important to be flexible. In high-tech production, not everything always goes according to plan, and you must be able to adapt quickly. But if you enjoy variety and challenges, VDL ETG is a great place to work.”
